The Baton Rouge Blues Festival and Foundation will bring its annual Baton Rouge Blues Festival to the downtown area of Louisiana’s capitol city on April 21-23. The free event features music, art, food, and other activities.
The 2023 lineup features the musical talents of Tommy Castro & The Painkillers, Elizabeth King, Southern Avenue, The Peterson Brothers, TC Carter Band, Brothers Dege, Veronica Lewis, Luther Kent, J.P. Bimeni, D.K. Harrell, Moonlight Benjamin, Leonard “lowdown” Lrown, Sugarharp, Mia Borders, Sundanze, Sam Hogan & The Rhythm Ramblers, Gregg Martinez, Clay Melton, and many more.
Baton Rouge Blues Festival celebrates the city’s part in the creation of the swamp blues genre thanks to Crowley record producer J.D. Miller in the 1950s. The genre eventually crossed the Atlantic to Europe, helping birth the British Invasion as bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones found inspiration from swamp blues pioneers like Slim Harpo and Henry Gray.
Additionally, the BluesFest Kids Area is sponsored by Raising Canes and will be located at the Old State Capital grounds from 12-4 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Kid-friendly activities include drum circles, face painting, and arts and crafts.
Baton Rouge Blues Festival is an all-ages event.
