Winter WonderBread 2023 Review

Last weekend Rhett Whatley (aka Daily Bread), Philos Records, and Hawk’s Nest Music hosted Winter WonderBread, the second version of a multi-day EDM event in the mountains of Colorado. The original Daily Shred debuted in 2022 on Copper Mountain. While we didn’t get to ski into any sets this year, we got a free daytime Rail Jam competition and Saturday performances at Bluebird Market. The headlining acts occurred at 10 Mile Music Hall in Frisco, Colorado.

The event featured three performances from Daily Bread and support from CatParty, Dredlok, Redrum (substituting for Canabliss), Duffrey (filling in for Kumarion), MZG, McWavy, Yoko, Great Dane, Lipphead, and Half Color. The Lazershark (lighting designer for Pretty Lights) also supported Daily Bread’s Friday and Saturday sets with his signature mind-melting light show.

Lazers!

10 Mile Music Hall, the biggest indoor music venue in the Rocky Mountains, hosted Winter WonderBread’s evening sets. 10 Mile was built in 2017 and features the largest rooftop deck in Summit County. Saturday’s daytime sets and Rail Jam took place at Frisco’s new Bluebird Market, an indoor/outdoor venue with a food court.

Friday’s music kicked off with Yoko, MZG, and Great Dane. Then, Daily Bread and The Lazershark opened the weekend with a bang and had the crowd dancing and singing along to old and new-school hip-hop samples.

Saturday’s music started at 2 PM at Bluebird Market. The event was free to anyone, and no WonderBread ticket was required. Unfortunately, Canabliss and Kumarion had to drop out last minute, but this is Colorado, and we have plenty of EDM artists ready to take over. Redrum and Duffrey stepped up to fill the final two spots of the daytime sets. CatParty kicked things off with his blend of electro-soul and heavy beats. Dredlok brought his instruments and dance moves for a truly unique set. Anyone could sign up for the Rail Jam, a ski and snowboard competition held right outside on an artificial snow hill and rail combo. Only in Colorado could you catch a free EDM show with a snowsports competition thrown in.

That night, McWavy opened at 10 Mile with her jazzy tunes, keytar, and vocals, Eliot Lipp and Blockhead played their first set together as Lipphead, and Michal Menert and Paul Basic brought their side project, Half Color, to the stage. It was a memorable evening for Pretty Lights music fans, with plenty of throwbacks. Daily Bread shut 10 Mile down with a much heavier set than night one, leaving everyone speechless.

Beats & Eats was Sunday’s theme at 10 Mile, with music kicking off at noon. Attendees could pre-order a breakfast burrito to enjoy as Rhett played a mellow brunch set as his alter-ego, Cloud Conductor. McWavy and Eliot Lipp also played short sets on the final day.

The weekend was highly successful, thanks to Daily Bread, Philos Records, and Hawk’s Nest Music. Winter WonderBread sold out, and the bread fam showed up, complete with pieces of toast with Daily Bread’s logo baked in.
